The small print, in plain English
Terms
What you're agreeing to when you buy from The Laughter Bank: an account for yourself, accounts for your team, or a sponsorship. If anything here isn't clear, email me and I'll fix the wording. Last updated 1 October 2026.
The short version. Your account arrives the moment you pay, so it can't be sent back, but if something doesn't work or isn't what the page described, I'll put it right or refund you. An organisation's code lasts 12 months, and any accounts it doesn't open go to the Equity Fund instead of going to waste. Sponsorships renew each year until you cancel. The Laughter Bank is a self-help tool, not a treatment, and not a financial service.
Who you're buying from
The Laughter Bank is made by Laugh Therapy, a trading name of Edacity Limited, registered in England, company number 09380627. Business address: 76 Arden Way, Market Harborough, Leicestershire, LE16 7DD. Email: barry@laughtherapy.lol. Edacity isn't VAT-registered, so prices carry no VAT.
Online payments go through Lemon Squeezy, who act as the seller of record and send your receipt. Their buyer terms cover the payment itself. I never see your card details.
What an account is
- A Notion template and the PDFs that go with it, delivered by email as soon as you pay. Notion is free, and every account comes with a step-by-step guide to setting one up.
- Notion's own terms apply to your Notion account. Their minimum age is 13, and anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian who agrees to Notion's terms.
- For you, or the people it was bought for. Please don't resell an account or share the template files publicly.
- A tool that helps, never a treatment. It shares self-help ideas drawn from published research. It isn't medical advice, and it doesn't replace any care you already receive. If you're struggling, Samaritans are on 116 123, free, any hour.
- Not a financial service. The Laughter Bank doesn't hold money, take deposits, pay interest or involve savings. The only currency here is comedy.
Refunds on an account you buy
Your account is delivered straight away, and you can keep a copy from that moment, so it can't be returned. By completing your order you agree to it being delivered at once, which means the usual 14-day right to cancel ends when delivery begins.
That doesn't affect your right to something that works. If a file doesn't arrive, the template doesn't work, or what you get isn't what the page described, email me and I'll fix it, or refund you if I can't.
Opening an account for someone else
When you open an account for someone else, through a Joint Account or the Equity Fund, what passes to them is the account, never money. If you haven't told me who it's for within a month, it moves to the Equity Fund, to be issued free through organisations that support people's mental health.
Buying for your organisation
- 10 to 199 accounts online: Rainy Day Accounts at £9.90 each, or Joint Accounts at £19.80 a pair. Any number can be invoiced instead. For 200 or more, get in touch.
- One code, by email, capped at the number you bought. Each person uses it once to open their own account. I see the email address each account was opened with, never what anyone puts inside it.
- The code lasts 12 months from the day it arrives. Any accounts not opened by then pass to the Equity Fund, and I'll let you know when that happens.
- Orders are final once the code has been issued. Unused accounts aren't refunded, because they never go to waste.
- Invoices are payable within 30 days. I'll send one you can raise a purchase order against, and the code goes out when payment arrives.
Sessions and talks for orders of 200 or more
- A Laugh Therapy session or talk of up to an hour costs £249, half my usual fee, in person or online.
- Travel is free within 25 miles of Market Harborough. Further away, it's 45p a mile for the whole return journey, quoted before you book, and that covers any train, flight or hotel. Online sessions carry no travel charge.
- You can rebook once, free, with at least 14 days' notice.
- With less notice, or if you cancel, the session fee is still due, though I'll offer one new date within three months where I can. Travel already booked is charged at cost.
- If I ever have to cancel, you choose a new date or a full refund.
Sponsorship
- Supporter £99, Partner £495 and Headline sponsor £1,980 a year, for 10, 50 and 200 accounts. Lead partnerships are agreed with each partner.
- Your accounts go into the Equity Fund when you pay and are issued free, through organisations that support people's mental health. What's passed on is the account, never your money.
- Sponsorship renews each year until you cancel. Cancel at any time to stop the next renewal, and your credit stays on the page until the year you've paid for ends. Payments already made aren't refunded, because your accounts are already in the Equity Fund.
- I check every name, logo and link before it goes up, and I can decline or remove one that doesn't fit. I don't take sponsorship from gambling, alcohol, tobacco or vaping brands, or from payday and high-cost lenders. Sponsors are credited, not endorsed, and nothing about the bank changes because of a sponsorship.
- Sending your logo gives me permission to show it on thelaughterbank.com while your sponsorship runs, and on printed handouts for Lead partners.
- Your website badge is yours to show while your sponsorship runs. If you cancel, please take it down when your paid year ends.
- Everyone who sponsors by 30 September 2027 is a founding sponsor, and keeps the title.
- Headline sponsors can book a session or talk at half my usual fee, on the session terms above.
Who owns what
The words, designs and comedy in The Laughter Bank belong to Edacity Limited. Buying an account gives you a licence to use it, not ownership of the material.
Liability
I'll do everything I reasonably can to keep the bank working. Nothing here limits anything the law doesn't allow me to limit, including your rights as a consumer. Beyond that, Edacity Limited's liability for any order is limited to what was paid for it.

Changes, and the law
If these terms change, the new version applies to orders placed after the change, and the date at the top shows when that was. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
